It's a really great course. It makes me know lots of coding fundamentals, which is helpful for both C++ and other coding languages.
I found the course to be very comprehensive and thorough. Notes, lecture videos and the forum provide plenty of information. TAs were very helpful and responsive. This course did meet my goal to learn C++ programming in preparation for graduate studies in financial engineering. I now have a very solid foundation in programming.
Excellent! Got a solid understanding of the foundation of C++ through the course.
The course is well structured, consecutive and reasonably challenging.
The TAs (especially APalley) are supportive and patient. If there is a question that I didn't really get, they would repeatedly answer/discuss it to/with me.
Good quality assignments. Assignment instructions can sometimes be more clearly stated, and the forum would benefit from a text search functionality
The course syllabus, material and assignments are very meticulously laid out with special focus on concepts. The system of having TAs assigned to every student is what makes the course stand out. TAs are responsive and friendly. They give constructive feedback on every assignment and clarify doubts.
It’s a nice course with good ta and class mates!
Great course! I think the material is very good, suitable for people who have no programming experience to learn. The atmosphere of the forum was also excellent. The TA answers questions timely and clearly.
It is a terrific course and I really learned a lot from it. Before the course, I only have some basic knowledge about C++, but after three months of learning, I develop a deeper understanding of C and C++, especially their usage in financial engineering field. I also met many outstanding people here in QuantNet. It's really a valuable experience!
This is useful, but more examples of running code and explanation of specific important methods might be more useful
I have learned a lot from this course and I am able to strength my quant background. I give this course 10/10
I like the homework’s, and the way cpp being taught
I'm a mechanical engineer and absolutely hated coding since my engineering days and after my progression into finance I felt that it is a necessary tool which I must learn. Hesitatingly I picked up this course and in the first glance everything was hard (because of my repulsiveness to coding) but as I went through Mr Duffy's lectures, the homework assignments (the best way to learn C++) and the forum (almost all of my doubts were cleared there) changed my attitude towards coding and after a certain point I started loving it. If you're someone who absolutely hates coding but still wants to learn, I'd say this is the best course (you might love coding afterwards).
As always Avi, Daniel and the whole forum is there to help you out if you have any doubts.
The course helps me a lot in laying a solid foundation for using Cpp, the exercises in the course are quite useful for revising the learned knowledge.
This course is the best C++ course I've ever taken. It could be better if the last application section were separated into two or more subsections( MC method, FDM, Lattice method). The learning curve becomes steep in Part Level 9.
The course provides significantly rich materials, helpful and professional tutors, and practical exercises. As a non-CS background student, I gained a lot from it which's not limited knowledge but also program design and creative thinking.
This course was really amazing. I enjoyed it a lot, more than I expected. I like that it forces you to really engage with the topics through the extensive homework assignments. For me that’s the best way to learn!
Extremely high quality. Exceeded my expectations - not only have I understood how to code to a proper standard (especially in the OOP sense) I have enabled a habit where I comment on a lot of my code so I truly understand why I do what I am doing and in case I ever need to refer back to it. I have also removed my fear of coding which is the most key here and can comfortably handle a lot of hackerrank problems, where before I would dread to attempt. Further thoughts on the course are given in the testimonial I have written!
I think this course is of really high quality. It not only clearly explains the basic concepts, but also provides vivid examples and applications.
Overall the course is very high quality and meets my expectations.
