TA is very nice and very patient for checking my assignment
Yes, this course has greatly boosted my coding skills as well as my understanding of C++. The TA support is in time and the course structure is clear and reasonable. I would recommend it to my friends and for those people who want to have deeper insights into programming.
The course is very good!!
The homework is very tough for me, but it worths me spending time on it.
Overall pretty good but some concepts explanations are vague and hard to understand.
The content was excellent. The lectures were good and explained the content well. The exercises had a good mix of basic and challenging. I feel that I have an understanding and appreciation for the role of C++ in finance (and other disciplines).
Would be much better of the videos are retaken with updated materials and modifying minor typos, takes, renewed drawings.
Also, Professor Duffy’s mic seems too sensitive and catching all the unnecessary noises.
Other than that, the course helped me to gain basics of c++
The quality of the course is top-notch. Very challenging but that means very rewarding. I have been trying to take C++ courses from every online sources I could find. None of them can hold the candle of the rigorous computer science concepts taught by Prof. Duffy.
The overall quality of the course is excellent. It makes me get hang of the basic C++ knowledge and at the mean time, it makes me to learn the option pricing based on the C++. It will be helpful for me to the further study in the financial engineering.
The C++ course is really well-designed and particularly relevant to financial engineering & quantitative finance fields. It definitely meets my expectation. I think I am well prepared to take on new academic & industry challenges by leveraging C++ as a tool.
Definitely do not do the course in Xcode. I would definitely recommend doing the course in Visual Studios instead of Xcode as it was truly a pain to do some of the codes in Xcode and understanding why your code doesn't work while everyone else's does.
I learned a lot and the TA was diligent about responding to questions and grading material in a timely fashion.
Avi, Pavlos, GONG CHEN are very kind and always show up where their assistance are needed. Prof. Duffy is also very friendly and actively participate in the discussion in the forum.
I am taking this course to learn more about C++ and preparing for my application for the masters in financial engineering. I found this course harder than I think that I spent tons of hours to learn coding. It is a very challenging course as an online course, but I do learn a lot from it. Also thanks very much for the assistance from TAs. They are very helpful.
The outline of the course is very clear, showing us a nice way to get a look into C++ paradise. The TA was helpful and the forum gathered a lot of intelligence. I learned a lot through the course. However, I want to say the homework of the course is not clear at most of the time. We spent a lot of time understanding the requirements of the homework. Although spending time to do the search is a neccessary and important way to learn, I still think the time I took is so much.
Generally it meets my need and expectation for learning C++ to prepare for quantitative finance. The TAs and the forum are helpful.
The course is good in general. Key concepts well explained. Homework are generally well designed.
Structure of the course provides a good overview of key C++ and general programming concepts. The final parts give a good introduction into the applications of finance through C++. It certainly met my expectations and made me more comfortable programming in C++. Right now, I am strongly considering taking the C++11/14 advanced course after having completed this.
Everything is in good quality. My primary goal, getting some practice and getting my hands dirty, is fulfilled.
But I do think you should update the lecture videos to make them more interactive with studs and cut them into pieces, like 4-7 min clips.
The videos can have better quality. Level 9 is very helpful. The TA replied in time which is very helpful.
Generally speaking, this course is good for C++ starters. This course systematically teaches the syntax in C++, how to build a big VS project, some basic usages in STL and Boost, and the common practice in computational finance. For me, I have taken the C++ course before, the majority of this course is a good review of C++ knowledge for me. The boost library and computational finance part are most attracting for me, but they only take a relatively small part (The last two levels).
