Programme Overview
Launched in 2015 by The Chinese University of Hong Kong, Shenzhen (CUHKSZ) in partnership with The Chinese University of Hong Kong (CUHK), the Master of Science Programme in Financial Engineering is benchmarked with similar master programmes in financial engineering in leading universities around the world and is the first of its kind in the Greater Bay Area of China. All major courses are taught in English with a normative study period of up to two years. Students are required to complete 5 required courses and 5 elective courses that students could choose according to their interests.
Internationally, our programme has established an exchange programme with the Master of Finance programme at Bocconi University and a Collaborated Degree Programme with the MSc in Mathematical Finance and Financial Technology programme of Questrom Business School of Boston University.
Academic & Industrial Collaboration
The programme aims to equip our students with hands-on financial knowledge, quantitative analytical methods, scientific and engineering skills, so they can face the challenge from the rapidly changing Chinese and international financial markets. In addition to teaching by faculty members from both CUHK and CUHKSZ, our students benefit from the strong linkage our programme with the financial and other relevant industries. These include a large team of practitioners working full time with leading employers and who are experts in their fields sharing their experience and expertise as teaching instructors and mentors. We have different collaborations with leading firms from the industry, offering our students insights and exposure into the practical world whilst still studying under our programme.
Since its launch in 2015, the MFE programme has evolved in line with the rapidly changing world. We have an advisory committee comprised of leading global academic and industry practitioners giving us guidance on how to enhance our programme. Based on their feedback and interest from students, we have launched a number of new courses in Fintech including Machine Learning, Data Science, RegTech, Artificial Intelligence and Blockchain Applications.
Alumni Network
A developed network of alumni from the programme, CUHK and CUHKSZ who may be working in Shenzhen, Shanghai, Beijing and other cities in Mainland China as well as Hong Kong, Singapore and beyond globally support our students actively. These alumni contribute in different ways including career mentoring, experience sharing as well as offering internship and graduate opportunities to our students.
Graduate Employment
Graduates from our programme have pursued careers in different fields including quantitative investment, investment banking, trading, financial risk management, cryptocurrencies and strategic consulting (among others) and more recently we have seen an increase in our graduates pursuing careers in Fintech. Geographically, the majority of our students pursue their careers in Mainland China or Hong Kong.
