Hi everyone,

I’m seeking advice on how to position myself for a career in quant finance given my non-traditional background. I’m currently finishing my BS in Molecular Bio and starting my MS in Financial Engineering. I expect to complete my undergraduate degree in December 2025 and then fully transition into my MS coursework. My ultimate goal is to work as a quant after graduation.

I haven’t had any internships yet, though I’ve developed some programming skills in Python through undergrad research in computational bio. I Haven't had extensive math besides calculus, linear algebra, differential equations, and biostatistics, though I have a minor in math. I plan to start taking my financial engineering courses next semester and am looking for opportunities for Summer 2025 to gain relevant experience. Right now, I have been strengthening my coding skills. Ideally, I’d like to secure an internship/program/experience that would make me a more competitive candidate for quant roles.

Any advice on the types of internship/program/experiences I should target for summer 2025 or steps I can take (certifications, projects, etc.) to strengthen my profile? Thanks in advance!
