I am planning to attend a part-time mathematical finance (theory heavy quant finance course) degree whilst working.

I would like to hear any experience or thought from senior fellows on how this enrich me life in terms of quant career as well as intellectual capability around quant finance.
Welcome to accept any downsides to think as well.

Could you share your experience and thoughts on this please?

I am basically an algo trading quant in sell side working for a few years with very superficial Q-quant knowledge from some bits of short courses.
My hope is to get thorough pricing/risk/portfolio/timeseries knowledge - by investing a few years + paying as much as my rent - which will help me work with grounded knowledge for future projects on RelV/MktMaking/Hedge/Execution/Analytics etc.

Work at the job is intense and challenging, but at the same time I believe delving solely into the work tasks will not evolve me to the next-level of quant by engineering capabilities.

If you’re looking at US for your MFE or in your case as you mentioned MF degree and you’re an international student then it’ll tough as I know after your degree you’ll not get OPT. Again, I can be wrong but there are cases where you won’t be eligible for internships and stuff. I was reading about this on UChicago MFE page for Online MFE

Thanks for your thoughts.

I don't have any visa issues on my end.
My situation is whether to attend well-known state universities in budget (<20% my paycheck after tax) in part-time.
The reason why I target to MFE or those quant finance specific degree programme is that my aim is solely on the mathematics in quant finance, as I already have postgraduate degree and practice experiences.

UChicago is a very good institute but my choice of universities are all set already.
My concern is really about whether I actually attend the degree programmes that I applied.
