Sorry for going completely off the rails here. I have given years of computer purchase advice to the crowds here...now I need some. Strange as this may seems I have never owned a TV and never partook in a Black Friday event. Now I find myself needing not necessarily a TV, but a screen in the 50"-70" range. Quality needs to be crisp.

Uses
1. Movie night at my house - will likely be using 1080p files on my computer
2. Educational purposes. I do demonstrations in the neighborhood and would like to start using a screen rather than a projector.

Since these will both be feeding from a PC I assume 4k is of no use to me. SMART technology also seems unnecessary. So should I be looking for a 1080p LCD TV? And if so, what would be the best deal out there (based on what I have seen, anything under $300 would be awesome for a brand name)? I guess I would rather stick with brand name products.

Thanks folks.

No reason to be buying 1080p TV anymore. 4K is the norm and you should get it to future proof.
You should look at Vizio monitor. It's essentially a TV without a TV tuner. I thought I would miss out on the TV but mostly I just stream.

I have a couple of those from Costco. You can cast from your laptop, phone to the monitor.

Thanks both.

Ended up getting Samsung 55" 4k, non-curved. I've heard bad things about watching curved from an angle.

About the 4k Andy, I have 4 kids now...chances are they will topple the unit before I ever get around to watching a 4k movie, but still; gotta future-proof!
