Can I land an internship with just an MA/BA in math?

I got both my degrese from a small state school (finishing the MA by Spring of this yer), but have done pretty well in both pure and applied courses (UG Math GPA, 3.95, GR Math GPA 3.85). Have a published paper in mathematical finance, though it's nothing crazy, and working on another in numerical analysis. I was going to cold call some hedge funds, but I'm not sure if I have the credentials on paper. I'm in the process of waiting to hear back from PhD programs, including getting an acceptance to Stony Brook's applied math program which has a quantitive finance track. However recently I'm thinking of focusing on just making money instead of pursuing higher education for the sake of it, but somehow utilizing my quantitive talents. All advice is appreciated, thanks. I live very close to NYC, if that helps at all.

I studied at stony Brook and would say that there PhD students end up in very good positions. I was also a recruiter and say them in positions at hedge funds as well as front office sell side banks. It could be worth doing if your willing to put in the time.

Does this apply their Quant MS students as well, or would it be worth the 3-4 extra years for the PhD?
