Cornell seems to require a semester in finance in its portal as a prerequisite for the MFE course. I remember hearing in one of the info sessions that it is not a requirement.
I'm confused whether to submit the application or not. (On the specific page it's a mandatory field but the application can be submitted regardless.)

Ps. The website also states finance to be a mandatory field.

Deadline for the application is 1 Dec (today)
(sorry for posting this thread given that there is already a thread from last year, but the thread is incomplete)

If they told you verbally it’s not a requirement then it’s probably not a requirement. However, it was a requirement last year from what I know. Surprised to hear that they changed their mind on it. How confident do you feel that’s it is not a requirement? Are you certain you did not misinterpret them? If so, apply and go for it.

I vaguely remember them stating that. I cross-referenced it with a friend who said the same thing. But if last year it was a requirement, it leads me to believe it might be required.
In such a case what should a person do? Also, last batch I saw a lot of people from non-finance backgrounds, how did they apply? Like multiple from engineering fields.

If I was you, I would just apply and see what happens. Most schools offer conditional admission, so if you complete a finance course before enrollment you can be enrolled. Cornell might offer that if it’s required.

Just apply. Worry about this vague requirement later when you come to it. If you delay, you will miss the deadline. This is one of the easiest requirements to meet.
Put your application timelines on the Tracker. That's all I ask from all the applicants using the free resources on QuantNet.

Done! Yes of course. QuantNet has helped me out a lot, I will add everything by the end of the week.
