Quasar says Hello to the quantnet universe !

MY Question/s is/are:

MFE is the optimal / shortest qualification for a quant type jobs. What other business qualifications can suffice the "quant skill set" needed for such a career. I hear that actuaries are very good at maths / stats, so can actuarial path cater to Quant jobs as well considering if its beefed up with computing skills. Also, what other business and especially technology related qualifications can one possess to pass for a qunat role
. Is there a way to self study for aquant career or undertake a research based MSC or Mphil emphasising the qunatitative methods used in business and finance.
Finally, how do non-quant finance fields like CPA, ACA, CFA or even FRM compare with quant jobs in terms of work hours and PAY?

A background in actuarial science can be really helpful in area like Life Finance derivatives product. One of the most successful alum of the Baruch MFE program is a trader in a major investment bank doing just that. Matter of fact, he has an actuarial degree prior to his MFE career.
Who would know if someone with an unrelated degree may end up in the right place at the right time can turn out to be big. There isn't a one mold that fits all.
