Engineering Undergrad -> Top MFE/MFin -> Quant at Hedge Fund. Is this possible?

I was reading somewhere that a lot of students at MIT's MFin and CMU's MSCF programs start the program straight out of undergrad.

Provided these students had decent finance internships during undergrad, is it possible for them to break straight into a hedge fund from a top program?

Or would a couple years in banking still be required?
