I recently discovered http://www.kaggle.com , and I'm participating in some of the competitions listed and just wanted to share.

If you're interest in building machine learning and data mining algos , this is a good place to test / train that skillset.

Be warned, you're competing against machine learning PhDs and experienced analysts with 10 to 30 years behind them.

Slicing and dicing huge datasets has very obvious applications to finance.

This book exists already. I have it.

Right. The author does not update that page so I was under impression it's not coming out yet. It came out in 2009.

I like Kaggle but sometimes it seems like an overfitting competition...
