I recently graduated from a good liberal arts school without an extensive mathematics background and I am interested in pursuing financial engineering. I did not realize this until the latter part of my senior year. Thus, I am currently in the quantitative studies for finance program at Columbia to fulfill my math requirements. So far, I have done very well.
I have several questions:
1) Since I do not have an extensive math background, should I take the GRE subject test in mathematics to prove that I am competent in doing advanced math? If so, what is a good score for a non-math major to be competitive at the top programs?
2) Ultimately, I want to do a lot of data analysis and derive models on them. Would pursuing an masters in financial engineering be the best medium to do so? If not, what would be a better route?
