Hi All,

I recently decided to apply to MFE program this year(for this Fall), and CUNY Baruch can be the ideal school for me.(Job placement, location, tuition, reputation, etc) But the program is very hard to get into and I would like to improve the possibility to get an interview invitation.

Background :
  • BA in Economics(SUNY) 3.66 - Magna Cum Laude
    • Math class : Statistical methods, Calculus I, II, III, Probability theory, Linear algebra, Differential equations
    • Computer class : No previous experience or courses
  • GRE - NO SCORE YET!!
  • Experience
    • Boutique Law Firm - Marketing Analyst
    • BCG - Summer Intern
    • Accenture - Research Associate
    • Ipsos - Research Assistant
    • CHANEL - Marketing Intern
    • Riot Police(Military service, Originally from S.Korea)
  • Leadership
    • Co-founded Undergraduate Consulting Club
    • VP of Consulting Club and Soccer team
I think I need to take C++ course and get the best possible GRE score. Could you give me some advise how to prepare my application for the school other than these two factors and how should I prepare to succeed in this industry?

Isn't the riot police thing something an MBA would be more interested hearing about rather than an MFE program? Just my thoughts.

I don't know, I was thinking that knowing how to shoot tear gas canisters at people could possibly be a seen as a pretty tremendously useful skill to have on a trading floor, especially if he's a risk manager...

@CasanovaJ Haha, You're clever. Yeah, I wouldn't see that as imperative information for an MFE.

@Daniel Duffy , I can't argue with a veteran, but I would assume they can determine your people skills during the interview, isn't that what the fit portion is for?

Ahaha! I would assume doing wrist locks on fellow traders could have more than one advantage!

Back on topic, @BBlake I would strongly consider @IntoDarkness advice, that would probably be the clear cut , best way to standout and get into the Baruch program. Will you be taking the C++ class provided through quant net? The program is sponsored by Baruch, which would be even more exposure for you.

Thank you for the comments everyone!
I realized that if I combine the highest GMAT score in each category, my GMAT score is Q50, V35.

I will take online C++ course provided by Baruch, but I cannot take other courses due to my location.

Cool :)
Just do really well on the quant GRE, and play up your experience in the Riot Police (y)

Those pics are awesome! You will have a great story to tell in interviews regardless of which program you end up choosing :)

Joking apart, doing the C++ course is a good thing. Good luck.

BTW what kind of martial art do you do in Korea? tai-Kwando?

Most of the Korean learns Taekwondo! When we are kids, we go to Dojo to train our mind and body and once we enter the army, we learn Taekwondo again.

Cool.
I am a veteran judoka and have recently taken up Shotokan, mainly for the kata and to train the body and mind indeed. It looks a bit like Taekwondo I suppose?(?) Recently got my yellow belt in jujutsu but somehow it feels likes satisfying than either judo or karate.

I once had Taekwondo lessons but I vaguely remember that you need to be very flexible :)
