Hello, I am an international student who was admitted to Cornell MFE recently for Fall 2025 and am very likely to attend this program.

The following is my profile, as posted in my trackers:

"T20 (US), international, applied math major, no relevant work experience but several relevant quantitative finance projects in the BSM model, option pricing using time series analysis, and portfolio optimization and rebalancing. Took two grad courses in applied mathematics. 1.5 years of undergraduate research experience in the Applied PDE. 2 semesters working as a TA/grader."

I have no relevant work experience related to quantitative finance, despite my work experience in bioinformatics and signal analysis. I initially planned to attend grad school for the applied math program, but I decided to work in the field of quantitative finance during the second half of my junior year.

For now, after completing the program and gaining sufficient industry experience, I would like to work in portfolio or asset management (long-term investments, buy-side). I am posting this thread to seek advice on how I can spend my time in the MFE program wisely and eventually succeed in this field. If there were similar threads like this in the past, I appreciate it if they are redirected, and any comments and advice are welcome.
