Hi, I am currently attempting to implement the Heston Nandi GARCH in Matlab. I found the following file online but am unsure what I should plug in for the unconditional variance? Shouldn't the script need a time series of returns? I thought you start with the sample variance and then for each step you plug in the previous variance value from the GARCH, but how do I implement that for this script? Many thanks!

Code:
function OptionPrice=HestonNandi(S_0,X,Sig_,T,r)

%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%%
% this function calculates the price of Call option based on the GARCH
% option pricing formula of Heston and Nandi(2000). The input to the
% function are: current price of the underlying asset, strike price,
% unconditional variance of the underlying asset, time to maturity in days,
% and daily risk free interest rate.
