Hi,

Need some advice on the following:

I come across this analyst role in independent valuation control team that sits in the structured product control group of Barclays Capital.

Can anyone comment on the career prospects of this control valuation role? Which area can one advance to from here? To being a quant trader or more into a risk manager?

To add on, I am a recent master graduate in financial engineering who aims to end up as a trader, quant or fund manager at the end of the day. So just want to make sure that I start out the correct way.

Thanks.

Hi people,

I have further queries regarding this independent valuation control role.

1) Is this considered to be a model validation quant role?

2) How different is this from a product controller?

3) Is the work intellectually stimulating? Or is it something really mundane?

Apologies if the questions sound noob.

Thanks in advance!

Valuation control

You will have to ask how quant focussed the role is, but these jobs usually are. The positions are usually part of controllers. The people I know who do it like it.
If you're worried about status, don't take the job. What you need is an entree into the firm If that's not enough, you can always wait for that quant trading position at Goldman to open up...

Ok... will definitely ask about the quant part during interview.

Thanks for the advice Ken!
