I’ve encountered multiple instances of confusion regarding my application for the Financial Engineering Master of Science program at Columbia Engineering. Initially, I received an email confirming the receipt of my application.

Subsequently, I received another email indicating that an additional application had been created on my behalf " ... we’ve created an application on your behalf to the Financial Engineering Master of Science program at Columbia Engineering....." This led me to believe that there were two applications, prompting me to request clarification.

However, despite sending 10 emails, I received no response. After further effort, I finally received a response informing me that the applications had been merged, but one document was missing. I was advised to upload the missing document, but I had already uploaded it during the initial application process. Consequently, I sent another email to update the document. A few days ago, I received an email confirming the successful receipt of my application once again.

Nevertheless, I remain perplexed about the current status of my application and would greatly appreciate any clarification and thoughts .

Any thoughts why this happened???

Thanks for the thread referring to “Columbia MFE Admission Decision”. I still don’t understand it. I read the thread you mentioned, but it was a discussion about “They want me to call them to further discuss my candidacy and interest in Columbia. Has anyone else received this?”.

Could you please elaborate on your response based on my scenarios, that initial post of this thread? Specifically, Based on your experience I would like to know if I have been selected, rejected, or waitlisted. I would greatly appreciate your clarification.

The main issue is that I’m from India, and the F1 visa process starts from April to May ( max to max first week of June ). The first week of March is almost over, and getting an appointment for an F1 visa is already quite competitive (trust me…). Now, if they make a decision late, how will I proceed with the F1 process?

I kindly request that tell someone in your network who works at the Columbia University Admission Committee for the MSFE course convey that student named ,NIHAR MAHESH JANI ( Application Email Id: niharmaheshjani@gmail.com ), waiting for a decision. Even if they offer me an acceptance letter ( Know its difficult because its Ivy League university, and acceptance rate is still less) it will become even more competitive because the number of students who wants study in to the USA is significantly higher than the number of slots available in India for visas. Therefore there is huge competition for F1 slot booking even offer letter is in hand. This is because we are still a developing country, unlike the USA and other European countries, which have fully developed visa systems. Additionally, the visa offices in the USA and India are located in only a few cities, such as Mumbai, Chennai, Delhi, and Hyderabad, which are quite far away from most of cities of India , Including Vadodara, Gujarat (over 560 miles).

I’ve reached out to the Columbia University GRAD ADMISSION TEAM multiple times, yet I haven’t received any decision. I’ve explained my entire story multiple times through email, but the response remains the same.

I heard you. I only provided the link so you can temper your expectations and arrange for alternative.
Many people from last year did not get any decision until May or later.
You should expect the worst based on what other people went through last year. Have a back up plan.
