Hi,

I guess I will start with a quick intro...My name is Subhash, and I am a computer engineering graduate. Currently, I am the lead for a web development group.

Over the last year or so, I have been gaining a huge interest/passion in finance. It started out with just investing my own money in the market, reading, etc...Recently, I have been really interested in learning more about how I could use my technical knowledge and combine it with my desire to learn more and have a future career in finance. After talking with some people, they told me that a career as a quant might be a good place to look.

I would really appreciate any tips or advice on how to get started. I have strong programming experience (C, C++, Java, C#, .NET, MATLAB), although most of my recent programming has been for web development.

Right now, I am not sure where to start. Even with programming experience, I would need to have more technical knowledge on what to look for in the market, etc..

Education wise, I have my BS in Computer Engineering, but have been thinking strongly about a MBA. My cousin is doing his at Columbia right now, and I visited there in February to tour the campus and sit in on some classes. From some of the information I have seen on the site, would a MFE be better if I was interested in being a quant?

Any examples of the types of jobs that a quant would take?

Thanks in advance, and sorry for the questions! I hope that over time, I can learn & contribute to the community!!

-Subhash
