hi there,

I'm new to the field of quant finance and just got accepted by ucb mfe.

I'm in the process of learning more about the industry and am trying to figure out which job function I should be focusing on.

My background is in actuarial (almost ACAS) , economics(MA) and math (BA)

My first question: Is it generally desireable to obtain jobs in structural finance? What is the typical salary like for a ucb mfe grad in structural finance and what are typical hours like?

My second question: Same as question one but in regards to risk management.

My third Question: Trading seems to be the area that everyone wants to get into. Is the reason for this mainly that it pays a large amount of money? How long do people generally remain traders since i understand the hours can be pretty brutal?

All these questions should be asked before applying to grad schools.. I really wonder what you've wrote in your SOP...

Better late then never right? I'm starting to read books on the industry.

I never looked into it too much before because I didn't know whether i'd go into academia for an econ phD or take an alternative MFE route.
