For those who like to know what research is happening, Stony Brook, NYU, Columbia, Princeton all either have weekly or biweekly seminar series. Most of them are available by Zoom. You just have to go to each department for adding yourself to a signup. If they are not Zoom, then some you might have to be in NYC and go attend.

Princeton's are Wed at 2:45pm. They have a schedule up.
Columbia's are Thurs at 1:10pm. They have a schedule up.
Stony Brook are Fri at 10am. They have a partial schedule. More to come.
NYU does not have schedule up. You can sign up. They do typically have Spring only.
Fordham no schedule up.

Did not check for Stevens or Rutgers.
Lehigh has a Quant Conference each year I think in October.

So there are plenty of opportunities to see what kind of new research is going on in the field. Always interesting to meet new people.

Remember, some of the books and papers we read, probably less than 2000 people in the world have read and sometime could be under 200 people.

I find these seminars/lectures to be helpful whether fully interested or not. They sometimes trigger a connection to how to go about solving something or a new approach to thinking about something. The upside is that you can listen and you have no worries of mastery of the material with some assessment exam.
