OS for quant work?

Hey everyone,

I'm looking to switch out of using MacOS and into a better system for quant work in general. Wondering if those of you who are in the industry (or others) might have some opinions on what would be best to work with whilst studying in MFE?

It would seem it comes down to Linux or Windows. Seen a lot of full time quant roles strongly preferring candidates Linux experience, but Windows is more compatible with a wider array of finance applications.

A bit unfamiliar with the landscape, so if anyone could help me grasp the key differences between these 2 as well

Thinking of selling my Mac as well. Don't know why I got it in the first place. I had a far easier life when I was using Windows OS

Isn't MacOS based on Linux?
Whatever PC you have, you can easily boot them into a different OS installed into another partition.

If you want to use Windows specific application then you are limited to Windows. In Windows, you can use WSL to run Linux software without dual booting. If you want to do any form of medium or high frequency trading then I would recommend Linux.

A lot of the cool cats in fintech/blockchain land do like their MacOS. So Mark you do have that going for you.
