Hi! First post here. I'm currently undertaking a PhD at a London Uni in computational physics/Applied Maths I'm specialising in Uncertainty Quantification, stochastic finite element methods and Monte Carlo algorithms and applying it to time dependent diffusion equations with uncertain parameters, and I'm looking to break into quantitative finance when I'm done. I'm only a first year but I figure I should probably try and get a few internships under my belt. I've been searching the web for specifically PHD internships in London and so far only come across credit-suisse's "Quantitative Summer Institute" for PHD's - which is currently only advertising for Tokyo internships. Does anyone know of any others - it ideally needs to be in London! Also what are my chances given my area of study? I get the impression that computational physics is a good PhD to have for quants? I have also been reading thought the info on this site and gotten my self a copy of hull, Baxter and Rennie, Wilmott ect so hopefully this will help! Thanks for your help!

Hi Andy, Many thanks this is really useful! My main problem is that on several of the application pages they state that "you must be close to finishing your PhD" or "be able to start work in 2013"- like I said I'm only a first year, but I want to try and get a couple of internships under my belt while doing my PhD. Is this more of a guideline or an absolute criteria? Many thanks again!
