A goldsmith melts a block of gold to make solid spherical beads of radius 3 mm. These beads are then woven into a necklace by passing a thread through their centres. If 1 kg of gold has volume 50 cm3, what is the weight of the gold block that the goldsmith melted? (Assume there is no wastage).
The necklace is made up of 21 beads.
A 1 mm diameter hole is drilled in the centre of each of the beads to allow the thread to pass through.
