Quant Role Competitive Advantage

Context: I am currently finishing my undergrad degree and will be following up my education with a masters at a ranked MFE program this fall

Obviously getting a quant role (research/analyst) is extremely difficult in general and you need to be well rounded in math, stats, and cs. It seems though most people that apply to the roles are well rounded to begin with, so what can be a something a individual can do (through a students lens) to set themselves apart for a role in QR/QA? I recognize interview prep and connections are the top of the list, but what are some projects that someone can do on their own or courses that they can take that are needed industry but students aren't having, or anything other suggestion would be appreciated?

The simplest path in front of you is to take the courses listed on this website.

The most assured method is to medal in a STEM olympiad, but since you're asking this question I'm guessing that's not your profile.
