So I'm having trouble finding a good answer to this question on the forum. Perhaps its somewhere, but I cant locate it. Regardless, I was curious how it looks if you interview with a thesis/dissertation that doesn't have direct implications to finance. A good example is something like signal processing (my thesis is in this area). The coursework is heavy is stochastic processes and MLE, and a lot of the classes I've taken have direct implications in QF. However, if I sit down in an interview with a thesis that has a bunch of buzzwords that interviewer has never seen, though applicable, will it hurt me? I know these interviews are largely centered around research if the candidate has any.
Just curious what your opinions are on people attempting to take a different route into QF.
