Hi everyone ,

I'm currently in my final year of a double bachelor's degree (French equivalent that lasts 3 years) in Artificial Intelligence and Economics at Université Paris Dauphine ( a reputable uni) in France. I’m 20 years old, and my program includes courses in math, stats, and computer science, but my grades are solid rather than spectacular.

Looking into top quant finance master's programs in the U.S., I see that most applicants have relevant work experience, which I don’t have yet. I’d like to know:
  1. Is there a point in applying now, given my lack of professional experience? If so, what factors would influence my chances of getting accepted? And roughly, what would those chances look like?
  2. If not, what would be a more strategic path? Should I aim for a strong master’s program in France/Europe (something feasible with my background), gain work experience there, and reapply later? Or is there a better, more reliable path to boost my profile for these top U.S. programs?
Additionally, I’m financially limited, so if I do get accepted, I'm unsure about taking out large loans (upwards of $50-70K). I understand that these programs have high salary potential, but is it financially sound to go heavily into debt for a top program if scholarships aren’t guaranteed?

Thanks so much in advance for any insights, and apologies if any of these questions seem basic—I'm new to the forum and eager to learn.

You will get into some programs even without work experience. Try to aim as high as you can.
Without scholarship or personal fund to pay for tuition, it is extremely important that you get into a program that has proven track and transparent record of placement and career services.

Thanks for the reply and the advice, honestly do you think it’s possible to get into the top programs (like Baruch, Princeton ect..) even without spectacular grades or any work experience ?
