Top Down approach a Good Idea for Intermediate Term Trader?

I just wanted to hear some insight on if the Top Down approach to the markets could be good or bad the intermediate term trader (1 day-1 month). I'm curious because I feel that the Top Down approach is a fallacy when investing in stocks.
