What comes after PM at a Quantitative Equities Fund?

Hi,

I've been working as a quant equities researcher for the last 3 years. I've recently joined a tier 1 quant investment manager as a PM. I was wondering what comes after PM? I've always set PM as a milestone, I never thought about what happens after this. I'm in my late 20s - do I spend the remaining 20 years just as a PM? Or is this where people start kissing arse to climb up to head of portfolio management or head of research?
