What it means to be 'Reader' in Mathematics?

Hey all,

I came across a prof. and director of an MFE program in London, who's title is 'Reader' in Mathematics.

Any idea what this title means or how one can achieve it? I couldn't find it in google lol.

Not entirely sure but I think they are researchers (post-docs or higher) that do not give lectures. People who do are lecturers and so on... I think?

A reader is roughly equivalent to an associate professor in the US.
