C++ Programming for Financial Engineering

I really appreciate the course!!!!! It is the best online course I have ever taken since university.
The course is delicate and friendly. For newbie like me with no programming background, I can learn a lot from it. Now I want to extend my skillset in more programming language and it is the course that help me develop an interest for programming and finance. The boost library is the specific bonus and I have learned a very useful library in real practice. I hope to deepen my understanding in the field and I am going to learn some advanced.
The most person who has a significant influence on me is definitely TA Apalley. He is execellent and patient. I always ask silly questions and he always respond in quick time. I was really moved. Can not imagine the most brilliant Financial Engineering student answers my questions with such responsibility and conscienceness. If it was not him, I would have a more tough time to learn the course.

And I have learned to adpat myself for the learning pattern of elite education in America and strat to know about the real elite learning ability. I would definitely keep learning and exploring more on my own not only from the teachers like before. Learning makes me feel busy yet fulfilled. I need to polish myself from many aspects like self-learning ,searching materials and communicating with classmates and professors.

Anyway, there are a lot of precious quality I have developed by the course.

It has been a great pleasure learning C++ in QuantNet, with such well-built studying community, and with help from TA and classmates. Various tools are available for students to learn, i.e. Videos, slides, Forums, previous messages with Q&As.

This online course is extremely helpful to new beginners who seek to build their programming skills. It not only gives a comprehensive cover of all C/C++ basics, but emphasizes what is particularly important to quantitative finance. What I really like is Level 7, 8 and 9, which cover a lot of useful applications in real life and that's what we can't learn from another common C++ course. Additionally, the homework is quite well-designed and it greatly strengthens my understanding. The difficulty of the course was just about right for beginners in C++ but with background in other languages. The contents are divided into reasonable sessions and are completed with problem sets that help with learning. Sufficient help can be found on the forum and there are discussions not limited to the scope of the course but essentially allow us to understand C++ better.

The lead model developer in my group at work recommended this course so that I would have more opportunities to assist him and the rest of the team with future C++ model development. We work at a bank doing valuations on OTC derivatives for hedge fund clients, and we mostly use C++ for our pricing models. Although I had some C++ exposure in undergrad (I studied Quantitative Finance in undergrad), I never had a formal C++ education until taking this course. This class has been massively beneficial in my understanding of the C++ programming language and I highly recommend the course to anyone interested in developing these skills.

The course differs from the courses that I took before in that most of what I learnt comes from my assignment, rather than the slides or videos. The homework is well designed and we can get a good understanding about many topics which are not taught in the videos and I found this way more effective. After all, programming is all about practicing yourself, so the forums are very important learning resources that anyone who wants to make the best of the course should leverage.
All the TAs are very helpful and quick in reply, which I appreciate a lot.

This course is an opportunity to understand the fundamentals of such an important programming language. The material was designed by people with a clear view of what companies require from financial quants.
The expertise of the TA's and the quality of the course material give the students a top quality approach to understand C++. The fact that this course is endorsed by Baruch gives a plus to take it since it is a very competitive program. I also like the fact that, after the course, I can be in touch with the TA's through the forum so they could assist me with future questions since my goal is to become a better programmer. I strongly recommend taking this course.

It has been a wonderful experience to take this course! Before taking the course, I had almost no background in programming, however, this course helped me build a solid foundation in c++ little by little and enable me to build up confidence in programming. The lecture videos are very clear and sometimes humerous, and the professor and the TAs are also very helpful and professional, who are always there to help me solve the problems very efficiently. Sometimes I asked very basic and even silly questions, but they still reply me very patiently, I really appreciate their dedication.

The course was very good. I liked the structure of the homework assignments, especially the way we build on the assignments from week to week giving us a complete project at the end. The only bad thing I would say is the videos are incredibly boring. I do feel ready to take the advanced course which I will probably take up during the summer. I would recommend anyone to complete this course.

The class is intensive for people who don't have much programming experience. TAs are very helpful as they are willing to answer questions. Also the forum is a big help!
