Hi all,
I’m currently pursuing a Master of Science in Mathematics with a concentration in Discrete Math, graduating May 2026. My formal training is rigorous, with exposure to graph theory, linear algebra, real analysis, abstract algebra, and combinatorics. I’m in the process of refining my path toward quantitative finance, particularly roles in quant research, algorithmic trading, or data-driven hedge fund strategy. While my theoretical foundation is strong, I’m seeking guidance on what add-ons or supplemental programs (bootcamps, certificates, self-study tracks) would best complement my math degree to make me job-ready in this space.
I’ve mapped out a preliminary roadmap that includes:
Thank you very much in advance. I’m here to learn from those who have walked this path before me.

I’ve mapped out a preliminary roadmap that includes:
- Python & computational finance coursework (Harvard CS50P, MITx MicroMasters in Finance)
- A quant trading bootcamp (EPAT or similar)
- A cloud/data engineering certification for model deployment (e.g. Google Cloud PDE)
- Plus GitHub-based strategy documentation and project-building
- What programs or credentials you found valuable post-grad
- How much portfolio deliverables matter vs. branded certifications
- Whether adding machine learning or quantum computing components would increase competitive edge
Thank you very much in advance. I’m here to learn from those who have walked this path before me.
