Just got my total GRE score reported online.
710v+800q+3.5 writing.

The writing score is quite unexpectedly low. I thought I wrote well, but anyway.
I am not sure with this low writing score, will my chances into NYU, CMU and Cornell being tremendously diminished? On my transcript though, I took some politics class, which were writing intensive, and got A and A-. Will these classes mitigate the negative impression of my low writing score? And is there any other way I can get around with this? Thank you all

Best

My overall GPA is 3.80+

Better spends more time on your personal essay. And it better blows everyone out of the water if you are to convince people that 3.5 AWA is a fluke.
I don't care about your verbal score. AWA isn't about writing beautifully with correct grammar but it's about making a sound argument in English. It's hard, harder than memorizing 3000 weird words.

But don't worry too much. I don't know of any exceptional candidates got rejected due to a single low AWA score.

If that bothers you very much, retake the GRE and get a 6.

Thanks Andy. That is somehow reassuring. I think I really do not have a good amount of time retaking the GRE, since I am busy with my honors project and other classes. But I think I will ask my Professor to reiterate my writing skills in different politics and economics seminar classes. Do you think that is a good idea to improve the chances? Thank you
