Andy Nguyen Would you have any stats on CMU by different rounds ? I mean, how many people applied for round 1, how many were interviewed & how many accepted ? (or atleast how many applied & how many were interviewed) ?

Would be extremely helpful since CMU does not seem to have sent out interview invitations yet even for Round 1 applicants, whereas they have to declare Round 1 decisions by Jan 31. The anxiety is too much to bear

Hey shweta, I took a look at the tracker for the 2012 stats, and it seems ppl that applyed for the 1st deadline got interviewed by jan 16-18, so they should be sending invites soon, I guess. Since they postponed the deadline to ppl affected by Sandy, maybe they are a little behind schedule, who knows?
Go run or do some exercises. this will help you cope with anxiety better.

I don't hear anything too.
My friend from MSCF told me that applicants who get interview will mostly be admitted if they don't show any serious problem like mental illness during the interview.

Let's wait.......

Just received the invitation. Though I heard similar comments on the high possibility to be admitted to the program after the interview, I still would recommand an efficient and exhaustive preparation for it. Good Luck.

hawkchen Do you know by when CMU sends out interview invitations for Round 1 ? They have to give out results by Jan 31 & they have not even started sending interview invites !!!

Also, I have heard that almost 90% (or atleast a LARGE %) of those who get interview, are accepted into the program. Have you heard similar reviews about CMU ??

past cmu chat info reveals that invites can be sent up till the last day of decision deadline. also, some may be admitted without interviews.

Nothing technical, Rick first asked how I learned about the program, then about career plans, and other programs I applied to. Then I asked him a couple of questions. Then interview only went about 12mins, and it's more like a chitchat

I just interviewed with Rick for the MSCF program this morning. The interview was very very short, lasted only 12 mins. I wondered if this meant I said something wrong, or just because he had another interview right after.
Btw, our scheduled interview was 7:30, but he started at 7:38 and ended at 7:50.

He first asked how I learned about the program and I told him QN, in addition, I have a friend currently enrolled in the program and we had discussed about it.
He went on with career plans, I said my goal was to become a trader, but last year the trading volume slumped, it would be very difficult to find a trading job as a fresh graduates. So a more realistic goal was to start as a risk analyst, and I could accumulate experience and network within the industry so that I could later jump to the trading desk. Then he asked why trader? I said I saw my friends trading for asset management firms and I felt it exciting to be directly playing in the ever-changing market.
Last question was what other programs I applied to, and he didn't even ask me if I preferred CMU over the others.
I finished the interview with two questions, the first was about choice of campus, NYC vs. Pittsburgh; the other was about qualities trading firms look for when they hire traders.
I felt I didn't say anything wrong, but it's just the time... Everyone else said interviews should be about 20mins, while mine was way too short... Kind of worried...
