If you are selected for phone interviews, past applicants mentioned that they cited Quantnet as one of the main places they do research on the program and it seems to bring about some good luck charm.

According to historical data from our Tracker, round 1 applicants who applied in Nov got interviews in second and third week of Jan.

Another question, Andy Nguyen - does CMU interview everyone they admit, like MIT? Or are there students who get in even without an interview?

Our data from the Tracker confirms that ALL people admitted to CMU got interviewed first. There was one instance to the contrary but I believe that poster forgot to add the interview date.

Hello everyone...
Most of you enjoying the end of the year and are already in holiday mode. Most of you also have already submitted their applications for next year - to all best of luck.
It would be great if you could share your experience/profile/admission status update on this forum.
Since CMU has 4 major admission rounds students who applied early should start hearing the good news by the end of next month, others - like me - who are applying in the second round might have to wait till early April to get a definitive answer...
let's see how this goes, it would be great to get your input here

It was fun last admission cycle when results were released. Everyone keep refreshing the Tracker and post their interview experience. Tracker got lighted up with Red/Green status.
I expect that more and more programs will release their result earlier every year.

the application requires two essays, but I don't see any specifications such as what questions should be answered in which essay..I emailed the admission office a few weeks ago but no response..

Can anyone please answer that?

i can tell you what i did:

essay A is very similar to the statement of purpose of other universities, you would write why do you want to get this degree, what experiences lead you to that decision, and what are your future plans after the degree

essay B is more like why can you survive the MFE program: what qualifications you have make you fit for the program both from academia and work experience

you're right they're very similar though

It was by email. They have asked me to suggest a few interview dates in the next two weeks, and they will choose the one most suitable. Will ask them about how many applications etc. and get back.
