In finance industry, it's always found that one of the sector is always more dominant. More Innovation takes place in that particular sector.
say for examples,

1980 era of Merger & acquisition
1990 era of venture capitals & IPOs
2000 era of Hedge funds & derivatives
2010 ???

maybe currency trading ..

As volume & volatility is increasing adequately day by day in foreign exchanges.
All the economic activity in future will also affect currency market very highly.

... and unscrupulous brokers will front run you and get your money.

No .. I am not talking about just currency trading for individuals, whole Industry will get more inclined towards currency market rather than any other markets...

Reasons :
1) Though Us is recovering from great depression , But dollar will not be able to that much strong as it was in past , as emerging economies are improving at higher pace.
2)This may create a need of other global currency , IMF may take several actions in that direction
3) China is likely to make yaun as a global currency , though it may not be succeeded.

All these issues will put a lot of effect in currency market, so probably institutional investors & funds will more invest & trade in currency instruments to get good returns.

Currency trading is somewhat of a more 'commodity' in regards to trading as compared to equities. I don't think FX trading will really become dominant in any way IMO, I see it as one of the lesser inefficient markets, although it is still inefficient. I just believe there is more people doing business with the currency, which acts an agent to lower volatility. Maybe that's just my view.

As an aside, I was just discussing the creation of platforms in fx trading the other day (at a live set for a great band on the lower east side, lol). Check out TradeStation if you want all the tools in your hand and the interface to code all your algo methods in FX trading.

I think what you are describing is much more of a long view than a simple '2010 was the year to bet against currency Y.

True.. 2010 maybe starting time..it may be situation of next decade.
