I worked for a company but it was closed down during recession. What kind of information can I provide for employment verification process so that it can be done smoothly.

Can I provide contact information of my previous supervisor, who works somewhere else, etc.?

If you were registered as an employee for that company while operating then you should have documents verifying your employment. You might need to provide an archive confirming the registration of the company and operation years. If not then I don't think it will be useful to provide the contact information to your supervisor - remember that verbal confirmation will not be enough. You might be required a written document which clearly states that you worked for a company registered in year 20.. and closed in 20..
