Hello to all,

I will be starting a job soon on a desk that trades natural gas and LNG. I was wondering whether you can recommend me any good book that covers the subject in depth in order to educate my self further. I was recommended "Trading Natural Gas: Cash, Futures, Options and Swaps" , but my concern is that it was published in 1997. Should that bother me ? Otherwise the book receives very good reviews and the content look very interesting.

I don't know if it's relevant but here's a book on the oil industry: Oil 101 one of the best books on the energy industry.

Yes, somebody on the Internet recommended that book too. An argument was made that it relates to oil and not particularly gas. The answer to this argument was "When you read it, you will see how it relates to gas too"... So, I do not mind reading it (in fact I already have it) but I would like to know whether there is a better, more focused book such as the one I mentioned.

I'm assuming that your company buys research, so the best thing to do is call up whomever you buy from and ask for a "primer" on gas.
A primer is a massive research paper that sellers occasionally make. They cover an entire industry and will give you a good feel for that sector. I read through one on the apparel industry, it was 500+ pages long.
Unfortunately they're hard to find since putting one together is a massive amount of work. I remember a pm telling me that he had a secret stash of them.
If you can't find one you could cobble one together on your own by using thompson reuters, but it's best if you can get a primer.
I would avoid the book if it's from 1997 (unless you want to read it for general interest), since the market has changed dramatically since then.
