COMPARE Georgia Institute of Technology QCF vs NYU Tandon MFE

Hi everyone,

I just received an email from Georgia Tech about considering stretching the program to 2 years in order to further my technical skills by taking more CS courses.

At this point, I have paid the deposit at NYU Tandon, but I’m swinging because of the more rigorous computational courses at GaTech, which could better improve my employability. The only concern with GaTech is the location.

Please help me make a decision.

I was recently admitted to both of these programs. Which program has better overall job placement in trading and quantitative research? The statistics on QuantNet are conflicting because NYU Tandon has better placement right at graduation but Georgia Tech has better placement 3 months after graduation.

Hey everyone, I have received an admit from both these Universities and since they are so closely ranked on the Quantnet Ranking list it is a bit confusing to decide.
Just placement stat-wise, NYU Tandon doesn't look highly promising with the 3month post-graduation employment @86%, even being situated in NY, Brooklyn. I am given a scholarship at NYU which makes my tuition fee at NYU Tandon equivalent to GATech.

Any insights or pros-cons would be welcomed and appreciated. Thanks in advance )

If you are from a computer science background, gatech is preferable as you can get access to one of the best CS depts in US. If you are from a finance background looking for more risk related roles NYU tandon would be better. Off late many gatech students are getting placed in core quant roles. But Nyu is not bad either.

I am an international applicant and wanted to ask which program would fare better to get into quant strategy/analyst roles. I am not fixated on particular companies but am making this transition as a SWE from a top tech firm. I was convinced that the NYU program is a stronger programme just going by the past rankings, but on more research here is what I have ended up realising -
1) NYU
Pros: - NY city (biggest pro)
- Great industry profs
2) GTech QCF
Pros: - Very strong curriculum
- Career service more involved
- Better employer stats and better avg compensation
- Better brand name too (not sure?)


Infact NYU has published a combined employer report from 2016-2023 which makes me second guess the true employer stats.
I am still trying to understand how much of a weightage to give to Pros of the NYU and what am I missing that the QuantNet rankings in the past year are weighing in. (Its closest this year #10vs#11)

Would really appreciate an advice here as to what to do here Thanks!

georgia tech is cheaper, lower cost of living, better employment statistics, less people, and better courses.

I want to work in quant finance in the US, and applied for masters in Financial Engineering for Fall 2025 intake. So far, I have got admits from NYU Tandon's Masters in Financial Engineering and Georgia Tech's MS in Quantitative and Computational Finance. Still waiting for Columbia, UChicago and UWashington. Which one should I take, in terms for overall education, career services and opportunities and expenses?
