Dear All,

I am very new to this field and had been doing/reading some research. Please forgive my ignorance but I needed to ask:

How do we test the algorithm, what platform can provide me the historical data, so that I can test my algorithm. I looked into IB trade but that requires me to open an account and deposit 10K, i just want to test wether I can create a pulse in this field or not.

If somebody can give me step by step guidance on how to test algorithm or paper trade that would be great.

regards,
Aveshd

IB does allow you to create paper account, does it not?
If you are in school, it's a pretty straight forward.

I am not in school anymore that's the problem :)
I would try IB one more time for creating paper account, but I am 80% sure it would ask me to deposit 10K. I read it yesterday.
I wonder how people do their algorithm backtesting ?

back testing? Get data from somewhere and run your strategy. For back testing you only need data. What kind of strategy? which asset class? which products are you targeting?

Thats the question from where I can get this data from ?. I am mainly evaluate stocks and will slowly expand towards other classes.
I went on the interent to find out its really expensive. Quant is something I started to learn very recently and I do not want waste money without knowing that I can really do something here.
Please forgive my ignorace, but I am very new to this stuff.
