Good thing it was a mock interview because he certainly needs all the help he can get. Interesting how he says "Good, now I can break character" at the end. Was he acting the whole time or did he just misuse the term?

You missed my point. Obviously no one should have to follow lessons teaching not to reply as such.
Anyway, the sense of humor is very different from one country to another. If some miss irony and sarcasm that may just be a cultural issue as opposed to intelligence.
