MIT MFin MIT MFin Admission Discussion

Congratulations to those admitted! Would the quant assessment be particularly hard for someone without an engineering background? My major is humanities + econ (hoping to apply for a 2025 start). Thanks!

Hi, the test was pretty basic. It was mostly some prob, stats, differential and algebra question and then 1 coding question. But the level of the test was very basic.

Someone has updated "waitlisted" on the tracker but the date is 25th March 2025. What does that even mean? I don't think its legit. Also I believe it was mentioned on the application portal that interview invites will be sent from mid-Jan onwards.

Rejected by MIT. Freaking out as I haven't heard back from any of the other programs. Thought MIT would be easier than others.
What has been your experience? Those who are rejected, what do you think lacked in your application?

im honestly devastated as well. i thought i had the right background for the program - top undergrad, math, coding, asset management internships, attending loads of events. maybe my video recording was poor. or maybe im just not good enough because of how competitive the program is.
im starting to think a 2025-26 masters is not on the cards for me.

This year selection criteria is definetely different I have seen both indian and foregin applicants even after having a spectacular profile getting rejected without an interview, when checked the previous 5 years profile even somewhat lesser than those this year had been admitted before but not this time, dont know what exactly are they looking for

Same on my side. Similar profile (same program/uni, similar professional background) to an alumni that got in a few years ago but I was rejected without an interview. It is fine I guess, this process rests on some luck, and I guess we were unlucky this year!

IDK man. 1 is too less a data point to make any assertion. But the weakest part of my profile is my CGPA. Let's hope MIT was just an aberration.
