This article seems to be mainly talking about quant roles in banks, and claim that there will be less maths, and more programming, and less pay. Is this the trend?

100% correct article. True to the core. The little or so quant work is being done by the consulting companies. Most of the work is commoditized/outsourced/canned. Quants are being sold dime a dozen.

Its true that the article narrowly focused on sell side. However, even in buy-side the stat-arb quants aren't making any money to justify the 2-20 rule. The money is mostly going into the index funds / etfs or simple fixed income funds.

That was a very interesting article. The writer has mentioned something that needs to be looked into deep. That was bound to happen in my opinion.
