UCB MFE UC Berkeley MFE Application Discussion

I have a question about being accepted to UC Berkeley's MFE program during round 4. I went from a hold status to a waitlist status in round 4, and I am currently taking their pre-program courses, in hopes that they'll accept me by the time classes start. (The pre-program courses end the week of March 17th, and the school year begins March 26th.) Has anyone ever been in this situation before? If so, what is the probability of being accepted for this coming school year at this point? Thanks.

have you read the older threads on global derivatives? it may give you an idea. the last time i read it, i did see some people who applied in round 4 get admitted after being waitlisted/hold(held).

Hey guys, I think you have the chance to be accepted. From 68 available spot, I saw that still left about 10 spots.

Congrats! Have u made it to the second round? Normally there is going to be at least 2 rounds of interviews before an applicant is finally admitted.

My interview last week was exactly the same as yours. Several general background questions, some technical questions, a nice interviewer, and a 1-day-only preparation.

Mr. Prices, if that's the case then it is very surprising why they are not rolling out the admissions to 10 people in the waitlist. Although what you said would be a fact but that hardly means that there are 10 available spots. Some people could be lazy. But judging by the number of people who have enrolled for their preprogram courses the waitlist seems to be a long list unless people have some other reason to enroll for the courses.

Hi Rahul. I could be wrong, but what I said it is only bases in the number of people that I can see in facebook. Could be that some admitted student doesn't have facebook or they still not be added to the group.
I am taking the preprogram also, and you are right, there a huge number of student (I remember about 150 only in math?)... but I don't know if they enrolled to prepare their application to other programs.... who knows!
I wish you lucky and the people that are waiting for a final response...

I am a fresh grad in Hong Kong with major in Quantitative Finance. 3.7+ GPA, 700+ GMAT with 51 in Q, CFA l1, FRM, an internship in a non-BB i-bank and part-time in an asset management firm.

One of current MFE students interviewed me. There were questions related to math, finance(option, future), economics and one logic question.

The interviewer may also ask you to elaborate on the work experience. Questions vary a lot, making it difficult to prepare.

Hi guys,

I did my interview this passed Thursday. As previous members mentioned, it depends a lot on your background. There were 3 parts to it. First you are asked to elaborate more on your background/resume then a few technical questions and brain teasers and finally you are given a chance to ask any questions that you might have.

Has anyone heard back from UCB after their first interview yet ?
