The Round 2 deadline for the Berkeley MFE program beginning in March 2018 is just around the corner!

Submit your application by 11:59 PM Pacific time on March 29 and we can review your file and post a decision by May 25.

Here are some answers to commonly asked questions about the Berkeley MFE application:

Can I submit my application if my recommendation letters or test scores are not in yet?

Yes! We will simply wait until the letters or scores are received and then begin reviewing your file. Please note that the decision date may vary depending on when your application becomes complete.

Can I submit my application even though I still need to complete some prerequisites?

Yes! We recognize that many students can complete prerequisite courses between the time they apply and the time the program begins. We encourage you to list your preparation plan in the application (short answer question 1) and we will follow your progress.

Can I submit my application before I complete my current degree program?

Yes! Please send us the transcripts that are currently available. We will request final transcripts once you have completed your degree. Please note that your degree must be completed before MFE program begins.

I need a few more days to complete my application, can I still apply?

Yes! We do allow a grace period of 1-2 business days for those who need a little more time to get in some last minute details for the application.

For the round 2 I asked, admitted in less than 3 weeks as the application deadline was 29th march!!

The person probably applied early I guess? All the r1 I knew are pretty much done in late Feb.

Hey Guys, I just got an interview invite. Completely unaware of the interview timing. I have very less time to prepare. The interview is on 26th April. Any resources on how the questions would be like would be very very helpful !

Hi,
Congrats on the interview. First interview is a mix of technical and resume based. The technical part is kind of customized to your background, so basically be prepared to talk about whats on your resume and important subjects you studied through your major and etc. For example, I majored in statistics and finance, I got asked quite a bit of Stats/R and finance questions.

That is a guess, but that is what I found from others prior to interviewing. Good luck!

Hey congrats! I think the technical questions were generally based on your resume. They are mostly interested in data and programming skills. I wrote Java and C++ in resume, so the interviewer asked about my proficiency and then proceeded with questions about inheritance in Java and components of hash tables in C++. I would say it really depends on your background. You should make sure you know the things that are listed on your resume and you will be fine! I actually missed one question because I didn't expect these many data questions but I still passed.

At the end of the interview, the interviewer said he will recommend me to the mfe office. I don't know if all interviewers do that though. I waited for three weeks until Linda directly called me without any prior notice.

Hi Guys, what are some of the questions asked in the technical interview of R2 ?

Second this. More like 100K all-in. Also max loan an int'l student can take without cosigner is 50K if your lucky which means the remaining amount including interest needs to be repaid post tax perhaps even including currency risk - Daunting task!!

Does this still apply 50K is alot. That would pretty much cover me. The rest isn't much.

Hi all,

I got a conditional offer from UCB a few days ago. One of the requirement is: Successfully complete coursework in Partial Differential Equations, Python, and C++ at any accredited institution (Due Date: August 31, 2015).

They emphasized that the C++ and PDE must be taken at an accredited institution for a letter grade, coursera or MFE OCW does not meet this.

So I have checked other credit-bearing courses from Columbia Video Network. It takes more than 5k for a course. That is too expensive!!!!!!

So any idea where else I can take the courses? Thanks!!

Suck it up and fork out the 5K, the whole point of MFE is to get a good job coming out. Nothing ventured, nothing gained.

It has been more than 2 weeks since deadline for UC Berkeley MFE Round 3 application submission.

Has anyone got invite for their technical interviews ? I heard that they conduct 1 technical interview and 1 non-technical interview as a part of their admission process.
